Now, when to use PlanetPress Objectif Lune software is when you reach a certain volume and you are required
to print a lot of those per day, per hour, per minute, or whatever your window is. If you are printing three or
four invoices a month where you wait 1 minute for each invoice, it doesn’t make much of a change, but if you print
10,000 in a space of three hours, then there are gains to be made. There is ease of producing it. There is also
economy of scales by having streamline processes, archiving, sending by email, sending by fax, and things like that.
There are all sorts of services that we supply around that. So our specialty is truly printing repetitive documents
with some changes on them. We are not into printing books; we are not in printing posters. We are really printing corporate
transactional documents and promotional documents, a letter or personalized brochure

In November, Objectif Lune, a successful provider of the PlanetPress 4 suite of print production software tools acquired
Atlas Software, maker of PrintShop Mail. PSM makes it easy for users --especially graphic designers--to create variable content
documents while using application programs they are already familiar with. Adding such capabilities to Objectif Lune's already
comprehensive offerings--which include support for complex variable data makes a lot of sense for both firms. ODJ talked with Didier
Gombert, CEO of Objectif Lune, to get some perspective on the deal and what it may mean for the company and the marketplace.

Variable data printing (VDP) strategies are on a lot of minds and whiteboards these days. "More people are interested in it because
it’s getting easier to do," stated one industry pundit. The VDP market is as dynamic and diverse as the documents it helps generate.
Dozens of companies offer scores of solutions, while users and services providers are busy creating applications by the thousands.
This report highlights the diversity of the market and provides a snapshot of some of the many solutions available.

Objectif Lune will oversee the production of the variable content documents and the workflow system, through its PlanetPress suite of products.
It will create a PDF for submission to EFI’s Velocity Balance software, which in turn will separate the pages and send them either to the
Canon CLC3200, if colour, or to the Heidelberg Digimaster 9150, if black and white.

The 2002 On Demand Digital Printing & Publishing Conference (aka the "On Demand Expo") was held April 22-25, 2002 at the Jacob Javits Center
in New York City. Citatation Software personnel spent the week at On Demand. Here is our report […]. The PlanetPress variable-data-printing
solution is different from virtually any other commercial variable-data-printing solution in that the data-merge process is managed in the printer.
(Most variable-data-printing applications manage the data-merge process outside of the printer — i.e., on a server or on a host computer.)
For this reason, PlanetPress is an ideal variable-data-printing solution for environments where security is of utmost importance. For example,
if you need to print checks, or if you need to print patient records for a medical institution, PlanetPress might be right for your organization.

The software PlanetPress (PC compatible) is responsible for the creation of an Intelligent Form. Once created, the Intelligent
Form is downloaded into your PostScript printer's hard-drive. It then tells the printer what, where and how to print the form.
The processing of the Intelligent Form is done directly in the printer and the forms are independent of the platform used (AS400, UNIX, VMS, DOS, etc.).
The background images are either taken from EPS files or come from the Windows PostScript driver. The fusion of the images and the data is done by the printer.
