In the message box within an Image output we are getting a single space the appears before the text that we have typed into the box.

For example, in the message box we have the word "TEST" with no space before it.

But when the email is sent, the message comes across as " TEST".

Is this a known issue?

Indeed, I have been able to reproduce this issue. It's only with the Image email. If you use the Send Email output instead, it will work fine.
