We have a text file with close to 4,900 characters per record. PP Design does not display all the columns. In the document properties, under "Compilation options", maximum data length is set to 5,000. How to I view and select data, for example, that is in column 4,600?

Hi Rolf,

I was actually able to load, view and select data past the 5000 columns mark. I used PPSuite 7.6.2.9999. I believe the theoretical limit is 65545 characters per line. You might want to open a support ticket with us so you can provide samples of your form and data. Something else must be coming into play.

What is the nature of your data? 5000 columns is not your typical line printer format. Perhaps it contains special characters that break the emulation?

Let us know. Thanks.
Regards,

Actually, I believe that is a good direction to take. Data is coming from the mainframe. Perhaps there are special characters that can be "cleaned" up using the binary filter. Let me try that first.

The binary filter plugin was able to clean things up and we can now access and view all the columns. Thank you for the input to point me in the right direction.

Confirmed: once the file was cleaned things worked as they should.

Hi Rolf,

That's great news. A good tool to look into special characters in text files is notepad++, which is free. You will be able to determine if your files are at risk of failing in PlanetPress. Any control characters that do not pertain to line printer formatting could cause issues with the emulation. You basically only want CR,LF,FF. Anything else could potentially be problematic.
