First, I wish you all the best for 2014 !!!

We are new to PlanetPress 7 and just bought the Production version.

Beside the Design/Workflow usage I would like to be "enlighted" regarding the following printing considerations :

- Is there any situation where it would be better to print from Design ?
I understand that would mean using sample data as whole data.
Or is it better to send the Design to Workflow all the time.
This excepted a sample printing.

- Printing from Design (with our Production licence) using a Windows driver will result with a watermark, except if you buy a licence. Right ?
To avoid the watermark we would have to use a "Worflow" printer. Right ?

- Then how do we "create" a printer ? We have to create an output queue, right ?

- I've understood the difference betweek a Windows driven queue, and a "raw" queue. The second meaning we will send the PS stream where the first imply the windows driver will process the stream.
That's why we need PPD file, if we want to use a "raw" queue.
Where do we load the PPD for a specific printer in the workflow ?

- What i don't understand is the we would need some PPD info at the Design level. So how are we supposed to do this ?

I am pretty sure I will have more questions ;-)

Thank you very much for your answers.

fbonnot,

For your first question:"- Is there any situation where it would be better to print from Design ?"
It is always good to print from PlanetPress Design when you create a new document. You will want to see the expected result on your printer before sending the document to PlanetPress Workflow. Or also to test it with a new datafile.

For your second question:"- Printing from Design (with our Production licence) using a Windows driver will result with a watermark, except if you buy a licence. Right ?"
The answer is false if your PlanetPress Design is installed on the same machine as PlanetPress Workflow. If you are on another machine, you will need to use the PlanetPress Suite Workflow Printer Queues.
For further explanation between the different licences, please look at this link and check for the PDF's link:

For your third question:"- Then how do we "create" a printer ? We have to create an output queue, right ?"
Here's another link that will answer this question and many other ones. It is the section for Printer Queues and Document. You will need to click on the section on the left side of the screen to display all the topics in that section..

For your forth and fifth questions:"Where do we load the PPD for a specific printer in the workflow ? - What i don't understand is the we would need some PPD info at the Design level. So how are we supposed to do this ?"
I suggest you read these links:

I also strongly recommend OLLearn at this address: https://ollearn.objectiflune.com/ for tutorial on PlanetPress.

Hope this helps.
