Color Picker - 02/27/04 07:23 PM

Hello,

When K value goes up, CMY values go down. If K value = 18, CMY values cannot equal more than 82 (100 - 18).

Re: Color Picker - 03/01/04 08:56 AM

Hi:

This is by design: Equal quantities of C,Y,M will produce a shade of gray. So (50,50,60,0) is the same color as (0,0,10,50) The color in this example is a yellowish gray. This technique is called undercolor removal.

This technique saves on toner use and is gentler on the equipment. (If your fuser has the slightest problem, a 400% black print will reveal it.)

Thank you

Re: Color Picker - 03/01/04 12:57 PM

Hello,

This, I guess sounds good on toner-based machines, but this is going on an HP Indigo, not a toner-based machine. Plus, the fact of the matter is [23,82,79,18] does not look like [23,100,79,18] we tested it even on one of our toner-based machines. When working within a color-match sensitive environment, as we do in the direct mail/print marketing industry, colors matter to a client - especially when dealing with large clients with corporate colors. In this example, [23,100,79,18] matches their corporate color perfectly (even on the toner-based machine), [23,82,79,18] does not and is unacceptable. Therefore, is there any way to over-ride this technique, or is there any way of adding a feature to over-ride this technique?

(23,100,79,18) should be equivalent to (0,77,56,41). Please try these values and let me know if you get the same color.

Re: Color Picker - 03/01/04 01:26 PM

After trying this out, I was not able to enter the color I had specified. This has been reported to R&D and should be fixed.

Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated.

Re: Color Picker - 03/01/04 01:46 PM

Hello,

Thanks for your help!

Another issue that may need to be reported is: once I set my color, click OK, and re-open it, the color values aren't the same as they were when I clicked OK. Here is what happens. I create a new Box, then open the properties and go to the 'Color' section. I check 'Fill', and click on the color picker. Then I type in [23,100,79,18], it changes it to [23,82,79,18] which, as you say is expected. Now, I click OK on the color picker. The preview box updates to the new color, and I click OK on the Box properties dialog. Now I go back into the Box properties, go to the 'Color' section and click on the color picker. The values are now [0,59,56,40]. If you drag the color [23,82,79,18] to the custom colors, then click on the custom color it has already changed to [0,59,56,40]. Why do they change like this in both instances?

Re: Color Picker - 03/01/04 01:58 PM

Because we are trying to apply undercolor removal techniques to the colors, we modify the settings. We are currently re-evaluating the algorythm used in this procedure.

Re: Color Picker - 03/05/04 11:27 AM

Hello,

Since R & D is reworking the procedure, my suggestion would be to also include a means of turning off UCR. Maybe make UCR the default color method, but allow a user to turn it of when printing to machines such as the HP Indigo.

Has this short coming been resolved. I'm am having the same problem and need this to be fixed as well. Also, in the meantime, is there a way to determine which of color matchs based on your "undercolor removal" algorythm.

Re: Color Picker - 10/18/04 04:25 PM

Hi:
There is good news on this question. Undercolor removal is implemented in the software ( Version 4.0.46.1540). The max value is set to 300, which should work out in most cases.

Hope this helps

Re: Color Picker - 10/19/04 12:15 PM

How is it fixed?

I have Version 4.0.46.1540

When I try to enter a color of

C 0
M 100
Y 90
K 10

It changes the M to 90 as soon as I enter the K of 10

Is there an option I need to turn off?

Re: Color Picker - 10/19/04 12:22 PM

Hello,

There seems to be some confusion here.

Undercolor removal is implemented (as mentioned by Claude) which is exactly what you are seeing. At the moment there is no way to turn it off.

Re: Color Picker - 10/20/04 12:20 PM

When will I be able to turn off the "Undercolor removal"? It is a major hassel and I have to lot of fustrated Customers.

Or at least a way to be able to find another exact match that PP4 will accept.

Hello,

I cannot comment on a time/date when this feature will be available. It is possible that you have some combinations that are not currently possible.

The ability to turn off or on the UCR will be available with PlanetPress 4.1, which will be released soon.
