Is there a way to control / change the fill pattern when filling a box?

I am designing a form for a Canon iR110 which replaces a report which previously was produced on a Docutech.

In the original report, there were several boxes filled with a rather coarse pattern, but I am only able to create "smooth" fills at various percentages.

The users are saying that they are having difficulty faxing the new report because the fill apparently washes out the text on the faxed image.

What I am looking for is a way to create a coarser dot pattern.

Is this possible?

Unfortunately, the only fill options available in our objects are a color fill or a gradient fill. There is no options for a pattern fill.
