Which printers work best with PlanetPress in regards to multiple tray calls? I am using a Xerox and it will work with a HP driver for 2 trays (I have to make tray 1 be tray 2 in PlanetPress, but it works), but when you add more trays it just gets a mind of its own. Any info would be appreciated.

Thank you!
Aimee

aoneil,

Technically, any PostScript printers that have the possibility of switching trays should work with PlanetPress, as long as you use the correct ppd for the printer. We can't really recommend one brand over another. Problems related to tray switching and other finishing options is often just a matter of using the right ppd, and placing the commands at the right places, in the right order.

As for your problem with the Xerox, here's a couple of things you can try:
- You say you use a HP Driver. By driver, do you mean the ppd? And any reasons why you're using an HP ppd with a Xerox machine? You should try to get a ppd for the printer on Xerox's web site.
- Try multiple tray switching in another application, such as Word. Does the same thing happens? If so, then the problem isn't related to PlanetPress, and you should call Xerox. Otherwise, you can print to a .prn file from Word, and try to copy the tray calls commands from the .prn inside your ppd file.
- Does your printer supports media selections? If so, then perhaps you can try using this instead of normal tray calls.

These are things you can try. If you need help with any of these steps, it might be a good idea to open a technical support issue. To do that, go to our main web page, then to Services->Support->Report an Issue. Open an issue, and one of our technicians will assist you.

Rapha
