When ever I print an envelope, it prints a small icon in the middle of the envelope. It looks like a hand, writing on a piece of paper. Even if I create a new form with nothing on it and print that it prints this symbol. I've tried printing to another printer and get a PCL XL Error. Any ideas what might cause this?

This could happen if you're not printing to a PostScript printer, or if you're not in PostScript mode. Either you're using a PCL driver, or the printer defaults to PCL. PSM needs to use a PostScript driver, and the printer should be using PostScript.

I came to find that out a little while ago and downloaded the PS drivers for my printer. And it still print the same little icon in the middle of the envelope. Any other suggestions?

I also tried installed a PS driving on my other printer and its not working either. Still gives me the PCL XL Error.

Are you using a RIP, such as Fiery, Creo or similar? If so, make sure no RIP settings are overriding the driver's settings. You might use a PostScript, but a RIP setting could override the setting and set the job to PCL. A similar option could also exist on the printer itself, so make sure that no options in either your RIP or printer are overriding the driver's settings. Both should be calling PostScript.

While there's probably a language option in the Advanced driver settings(make sure it is set to PostScript, and that you're using a PostScript driver), what you need to verify is the settings on the RIP itself, not in the driver settings. Check the RIP itself, and see if there is an option for language, and make sure it is PostScript. Do the same thing for your printer.

Unfortunately, I do not have access to a Fiery, so I cannot tell you where to look for. You might want to consult your RIP's manual, or contact the RIP's manufacturer if you cannot find it.

I found a setting on my printer driving for a "Postscript Language Level" Its currently set to 3. I tried it on 2 and 1 and got the same result. Is the "Postscript Language Level" the same as the language option on the driver?

I checked the Printshop Mail Manual that I got with it and it doesn't mention any thing about changing the RIP settings. Is there a normal spot where it might be?

And who would be the RIP's manufacturer? the maker of the printer, software, or what?

Just wanted to show the icon that I am getting in the middle of every envelope that I try to print. And see if this means anything.

John, just to avoid any confusion, you're using a Windows version of PrintShop Mail (I assume it's 4.1) that is branded "PrintShop Mail - Fiery Version", and you see a splash screen with an EFI/Fiery logo in the corner when you start the application?
