Cosimo & Raphael- thanks for both of your replies. Cosimo - I am running 7.0.1.4674. I also received a warning dialog telling me the PDF was version 1.7 & may not be displayed properly. Perhaps that was the problem? (1.7 = Adobe v8, I believe) Raphael- i did save another copy in v6, deleted the PDF, opened in v7 & tried to drag & drop, same error. Soooo, since I had recently installed a trial copy of Adobe Illustrator, I opened my PDF in that, got rid of all the printers marks, and saved it through illustrator with a PDF version 1.5 compatibility. Dragged it into my design doc with no problem. So it seems only certain PDF "versions" are compatible with Design 7.0.1? is this a bug or a feature? Thanks again!

rsamberg,
As far as I know, it will support anything Acrobat 8 supports. Acrobat 9 will output "PDF 1.7, Adobe Extension Level 3", is this what you've received? If that's the case, it may be that the pdf was generated with Acrobat 9, which I believe isn't officially supported yet.
That said, depending on what you used to generated the pdf, it may contains things that are not 100% compatible with PlanetPress(remember a PDF is postscript code, which is embedded in our own postscript). The mere fact that you regenerated the pdf may have been enough to fix the problem. You can try to maybe regenerate it as a 1.7(make sure you use the standard acrobat 8 1.7 version, not the v9 variant), and see if it actually works.
Regards, Rapha

Update....
I upgraded my PP6 production server to PP7 yesterday. This morning several people reported that docs were printing, but the pages were either BLANK or contained only the data, but no images.
Oddly, I discovered several of my image resources that were present in PP6 were magically erased - physically GONE from the server. I had backup copies, so that wasn't a real big issue - but when I opened PP7 Design to put the images back, I ran into the exact same issue that started this thread.
The images are just PDF files used as a background, and were PDF v1.7. I had to open each of them (used Acrobat 8.0), & print to PDF to force the file to be saved with Adobe v1.4.
After that, I was able to recreate everything. So I think there might actually be a version compatibility issue in v7.0.1

We are running into this same issue. When we try to use forms with PDF, it gives the error first reported.
"The Alambic server crashed while reading the output and will be restarted. Please try again. Error reading from server: Error code 109: The pipe has been ended."
I tried saving the PDFs as different versions (1.6, 1.5, 1.4, 1.3) no change. When I try the PDF in a brand new document, the same error occurs. Any new information on this topic? I am using 7.0.1.4674.

This issue seems to be related to the PDF version - by distilling to version 1.4, the form now works.
Thanks OL support.
