Currently, we are unable to use non-standard windows fonts in our forms designs. The non-standard fonts [Consolas, for example] displays nicely in out form design, can be printed from Planet Press Design, but once we deploy the form in our live environment, a font substitution occurs -- replacing Consolas with Courier.

I think this issues has something to do with how we have installed our printers on our Planet Press Server. Currently, we are using a print server, so all drivers [although installed properly on the Planet Press Server] reference the print server.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. Please let me know if there are any specific details that will help you help me.

Thank you!
Jason

Have you double checked that the PlanetPress Server also has the TTF font installed?

Usually font substitution happens if the Watch environment doesn't have the TTF font to use. This is assuming you're using a PostScript optimized form output type. If you're using a printer centric output type, you'll need to install the font on the printer (which usually means you'll need the PS equivalent of the TTF font).

Where do I check to see if we are using a PostScript optimized output type? Is this information on the forms design or in the watch program?

I know i have installed the font in the windows fonts area on the server where the watch application is installed.

Thanks for the reply,
Jason

It's found in Watch. Double click on the form (in the Documents list) and select the "Printer Settings" tab. You'll see a Run mode radio button control. Make sure that it's set to "Optimized PostScript Stream".

If you have the form already associated with a Printer Queue output, follow the above procedure on the form listed under the printer queue as well.

yes the form is set to "Printer Centric" -- I will make the modification and test using another font and report back with my findings.

Thank you,
Jason

I have turned everything to "Optimized" and still it will not print my font. Any ideas on what I am doing wrong? The font I am trying to print is Gills Sans

Tanya,

Is this related to the previous post? If not, it is always best to open a new topic, and reference the other post if necessary.

As for your issue, did you verify that the font was properly installed on your PlanetPress server, and is accessible from PlanetPress Design on that same server? Is it available from other software (wordpad, microsoft word, notepad)?

Regards,
Eric.

I am pleased that she posted in this thread and i think that it is in line with the same issue i am having.

I would like to know how it works out for her -- so if she leaves this thread, i hope she leaves a reply in this thread letting me know what the new thread is so I can follow her progress as well.

The font is showing up in the Windows folder, and in Design & Notepad. It shows up in a soft proof, but not when it actually runs the job in Watch. Help!

Did it not get resolved for you Jason?

Tanya,

There is a lot of red tape where I work -- so moving forward with any change can sometimes take some time.

The short answer is: I have not tested this from my end yet.

I intend to do so -- but other items have taken priority.

FYI: The font "Consolas" is a really nice mono-space font that can take the place of the standard "Courier" you may be using. If we can get this custom font thing working I would highly recommend experimenting with using "Consolas" in your designs.
