i have a PDF file that i'm using for a data source. i have dumped the entire page onto the form as a clipped image. i am trying to add a data selection to the page but when i create the selection it only shows odd characters such as dollar signs and exclaimation marks. it almost seems to be an encoding issue. any ideas?

regards simon

Simon,

Is the PDF itself text? PDF/Document emulation only works if the PDF itself is readable as text and will not work, for example, with a scanned fax (which is an image within a PDF).

To confirm, open your PDF in Adobe Acrobat (reader, pro or standard) and try to select the text on it. If you can it should work in PlanetPress. If selecting text is not possible in Adobe, it won't work for us either.

If it works fine in Adobe but you still can't get it to work in PlanetPress, try regenerating (refrying) the PDF itself:

- Open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat Pro or Standard
- Click File, Save As, and select the "File Type" as "PostScript (.ps)". Click Save.
- Go in the folder where your PDF was located and double-click on the .ps file to load it with Adobe Distiller. This will recreate the PDF and it should now work in PlanetPress.

If you're still having issues we would have to take a look at the PDF ourselves, you would have to open a support request with our technical department. You can do this by phone or through the web .

Hope this helps,
Eric.
