I was told version 7 would have the ability to directly call up spot colors so A designer could avoid having to custom guess and blend the impossible CMYK value for a pantone color. I do not see it. This way, PP7 would call the color in the rip/fiery and the fiery would mix the correct color using the fierys internal library.

Hi Franklin,

PlanetPress Suite Version 7 does not currently support Spot colors. We have this feature on file for a future version.

on April 30, 2009, In the PP6 Design section, subject, PMS/pantone spot color support, Cosimo responds and states that the next major release, that would be 7 I would beleive, would have this. I was making decissions on what software to stick with at the time and based on the last two responses, I stuck with PP. I need to know if this is going to be in the plans or not so I can plan my next steps. GMC printnet has had all these options for at least 5 years now.

Hi Franklin,

Just to clarify, the message you are referring to was posted in 2008, in other words, a year ago as the current (PlanetPress Suite Version 7) was still in its design stage. Cosimo accurately stated that the feature was - at the time - scheduled for Version 7, but it eventually had to be dropped from the development schedule because of time constraints. If memory serves, I believe the decision to drop it from the Version 7 release occurred around September 2008.

We are still planning on implementing this feature in one of our next releases, but I do not want to mislead you by promising a specific timeframe. We are well aware of the benefits this feature would bring, so it is still high on our priority list.

I am sorry if we led you to believe the feature would be included for sure in the Version 7 package. We have the privilege of counting on a very active user community who is always suggesting more features, more improvements for future versions. This privilege comes at a price: we cannot - unfortunately - immediately satisfy everyone.

But we do try our best, especially when other packages offer a functionality we don't (and I'm sure the competition does the same with features they don't have!).

Please feel free to contact me privately if you would like more information on this issue.

Best regards,

I know this is an old post but is there still future plans to implement spot colours/pantone colours into PP?

Cheers
Andy
