I run into the issue where multiple people open up the PlanetPress Watch Configuration Tool at the same time. I have found that this is not a good idea and can lead to the loss of any added portion to the configuration. In these enviroments I often look in Task Manager to verify that no one has the Configuration Tool open.

It would be nice if there was a message that the Configuration was already opened and then go into a read only mode. Or better if there was more of a "Publish" model that would allow multiple people to be in the configuration tool at the same time, but would "Check Out" a process/subprocess. They would make their changes and then "Publish" the process that they had checked out. In a sense when you pressed send configuration you would only be updating the items that were set to "Publish".

Anyway the main issue is multiple users stomping on work done by another person. I'm getting more and more locations where there are multiple people designing Watch Processes. Perhaps each person would have a scaled down version of the Configuration Tool that was linked to the actual PlanetPress Watch. This way any changes would be local to their "Configuration Designer" until they published their process to PlanetPress Watch.

We're working on a similar idea. But since it's a major design/implementation shift, it will have to wait until the next major version of the software is released (and no, that's not a hard promise!!!).

We currently have workflow 7.0. We will be upgrading to the newest release in the future (not sure exactly when). Has this been implemented in the newest release 7.3? If not, Do you still plan on implementing it in the future?

tsacg,

It's not implemented as of version 7.3. I believe that by "major version", Phil meant more like version 8. Unfortunately, there is no release dates at this time for version 8(and don't expect it until next year), and even then, there is no guarantee that this feature will be implemented.

I'd also like to add my support for seperating the workflow design tool (Watch/Production) from the server.

We currently have 4 developers all wanting to create workflows for their documents, but only one of them can work at any one time.

I was told our requirement is 'unusal', but I'm not convinced :-P

Same request here.

Current way of working is a risk for losing configs.
