Hi, since upgrading to the most recent PP7 Suite, I am getting the following error message when trying to start the PPFax service:

F2001: Planetpress Fax was not started: Severity: 1; Category: 1; ID: 8
Message: Operation failed.

As this is not very specific, I am at a loss to understand what is going on - it worked fine before the upgrade.

Please advise?!

As an addendum to this:

Thought I would check the Service Console readout whilst starting the Fax Module and the following also came up along with the previous message:

An error occurred while starting PlanetPress Fax: W1029 : Initialization of COM subsystem failed.

Jim,

A couple of things to check:

1. Did you make sure the services have the proper credentials? In Watch, you can go to Tools->Configure Services, uncheck "Local System Account", and enter the proper domain and user name. User must have admin rights, and should preferably be the same user that you're using in your Windows session. Doing it there will apply it to the Fax service as well.

2. Make sure the PlanetPress Messenger service is started.

3. Which Fax service are you using? Windows Fax? WinFax Pro? RightFax? If you're using WinFax Pro or RightFax, have you tried to use Windows Fax instead? Does it work?

4. Was it working before? If so, what changed? (any changes, from changes to the Watch config, to changes to the fax applications, printers, or user rights on the network, permissions, etc...)

Let's start with that. Let us know!

- I have checked the user rights and configured services accordingly - all is as it should be.

- This service is started and is operating fine.

- I have always been using Windows Fax Service and still am - this appears to be operating normally.

- Nothing has changed except for the upgrade of PPSuite.
Let's start with that. Let us know!

Still not working frown

Jim,

Did you try to reinstall PlanetPress Fax? You can use the PPress installation executable to just uninstall Fax, and reinstall it. (you don't have to uninstall everything)

Yes I have tried that but no luck - is there a way of clearing all entries in the registry etc for PPFax to ensure there isn't a corruption lying dormant?

Jim,

There is no automatic ways to do that. You can always use Regedit, but it could be risky, since you might delete things that the other components of the suite needs.

This may be a case where we would need to connect to your machine and take a look at your system. Therefore, I suggest you open a technical support issue. You can dial 1-866-348-5863, or go to the web support form:

Raphael,

I have been working on this over the weekend and from a complete re-install of both PlanetPress and Windows Fax, I have fixed the problem.

Thank you for your help!
