k, so I guess I cannot create text boxes that are actual variables themselves. I am simply trying to create a letter that has a variable body to it. So the only ways I can think are either create a TEXT_FILE variable to bring in the different bodies via rft files or have separate layout based on a 'letter id ' field. If I was to do the first, can I have a variable already within the rft file?

Hi jay07631,

Yes. Since PSM 7.1, there are "persistent" variables, or global variables that are available.

In your RTF file, if you have the variable called for example:@VAR1@ and that variable is also found in PSM, the RTF file content will be replaced by anything that populates your @VAR1@ variable in PSM, based on its expression.

You you have a PSM version lower than 7.1, you will not have access to persistent variables, but you can still create one in an object outside of your printing area, so that it doesn't show in your output, but will allow you to build an expression for it and thus replace your RTF file content.

Hope this helps. Regards,

Olivier
