PrintShop Mail doesn't seem to be fully compatiable with one of our printers.

This particular printer works fine with all our other applications and if I choose the print settings for the printer itself and then open PrintShop Mail I can choose the printer and PrintShop Mail prints without issue.

However, if we open PrintShop Mail first, choose the printer and go into the properties of the printer when we click on the settings button, where the advanced options for duplex printing and the alike are, the program crashes.

Does anyone know how we can fix this? The printer concerned is a Canon IR125VP but it runs with a 110 or 150 PostScript driver. Both these drivers produce the same crash and, as previously mentioned, we have no issue printing with any other application.

CMS,

PrintShop Mail takes all page size settings, paper handling and other features from the driver used, unlike many other applications, which is why it may be a little more prone to crash if the driver isn't compatible.

I would suggest you try getting a different driver, perhaps one specifically made for the Canon IR125VP instead of using a 110 or 150 driver. Try a PostScript driver first, but if it doesn't work, feel free to try a PCL driver as well.

If you have Acrobat, do you get the same kind of crashes if you use the Adobe PDF driver? If not, a potential workaround could be to print to a pdf file, and then print the pdf from Acrobat.

I'm trying to get a hold of the specific driver. The 110 and 150 are the ones our supplier has given us for our machine and there is not a PCL equivelant.

However, I was under the impression that the main benefit of increased printing speed with PrintShop Mail was through the use of a PostScript driver. Is this correct or can we use any driver and recieve the same print speed?

Unfortunately, the job is mixed media printing so it wouldn't be suitable for printing through a PDF.

CMS,

Indeed, you will get the best performance using a PostScript Driver, but PCL drivers can still work. It will just be slower.

However, the reason I was asking for trying out a PCL driver or a PDF was to test if it could be a compatibility issue with the postscript drivers you were given. For example, if the PCL driver works and the PDF works, then it confirms a compatibility issue with the other drivers.

Of course, the best thing to try is to get the Canon IR125VP PS driver.

That is unfortunate, in PSM 7 we tried to make sure that compatibility problems do not result in a crash even if the driver doesn't behave properly.

I downloaded and installed the latest 110 driver (was not able to find a 125VP driver) but can't reproduce the problem.

My environment is probably different from yours, for one thing I could be using a different OS (I have XP SP3), and I don't have a physical printer connected to my machine.

I would expect you to see the same behavior in Wordpad when you go to the advanced printer settings. It is based on the same framework as PSM.

A screenshot would be interesting.
