I have a new install of PlanetPress v7 and I am looking to send outbound faxes using PlanetPress Fax to a Captaris RightFax v9.3 instance. It appears I need to share the RF PCL5 fax printer with the name "HPFAX" and then install this printer on the PPress box in order to use PPress Fax, however, this is a 64 bit box and I am unable to locate an HP LJ4 PCL5 driver that allows me to install the shared printer. I installed the Universal HP PCL x64 print driver but it does not contain an LJ4 driver apparently. Any suggestions?

We do have the ability to send faxes from RF via smtp/email so that is another option. To do so we address the email in Outlook in the manner of [FAX:User Name@555-555-5555]. Not sure how to do this from the PPress instance?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

sparticat,

Did you actually try the Universal HP PCL driver? Did it work? If not, then I suggest you look on Google to see if there's a 64 bits version of the HP LJ4 driver...

For the alternate method, I am not sure if this is actually going to work, as while we have a "Send Email" output, and Image can also email it's outputs, the email's body and the output are two different things, with the output being attached to the email. So unless your fax system can somehow fax attachments, it will not work, except for the purpose of printing the email's body.

Thanks, Yes, RF will fax the attachment. The body is the cover page. Still searching for a driver resolution.

Could you provide direction on how to properly address the email in PlanetPress to be sent to RightFax based on my original post? I think this is going to be our only option.

sparticat,

If that's the case, then you can try using a PlanetPress Image output instead of a PlanetPress Fax output. Use the same form that you are using with PPFax, and make sure you check the option "Send Email". Then go to the Login tab, and choose either Outlook or SMTP, whichever you want to use(in your case, I think it's Outlook). Then, in the Recipients tab, you will enter the email address that you want to use. Use the format you've described above. You can also make variable data selections from your input data, if you want the user name to be variable. Please bear in mind that you can only select one user name, because it will treat the data file as one big file rather than treating multiple records separately. A workaround for this would be to use a splitter to split your data every records...

After that, the last step is to go to Attachments tab, and check "Attach output file", which will attach the file generated by Image to the email that is sent. And that should be it. If you run this process, it will send the email to Outlook, which will then forward it to the proper recipient. (the actual emailing is done by Outlook, not Image)
