Is there a way to fax using the fax board in a Richoh copier/printer with a fax board in it? It uses a lan-fax driver. We're trying to get away from having a standalone PC for the PlanetPress, we'd like to use a virtual machine and we feel there might be a problem accessing a fax modem on a virtual machine. Any ideas?

Matt,

PlanetPress Fax can use one of three different faxing services: Windows Fax, Winfax Pro and Rightfax. So in order to use your fax board, it must be usable through one of these three services. If that's not the case, then you will not be able to use it.

Matt,

One other option might be to use a fax-via-email option with PP Image, either using an in-house fax server (we've used Solgenia's FACSys product for several customers) or potentially even using one of the Internet email-to-fax services.

In a couple cases, we're running the fax server in a vm as well, and using a small FoIP appliance to provide the actual analog fax ports. This allows us to retain full vmotion capability within the cluster.

This option will definitely cost more than a single attached fax modem, but then it depends on how important the VM option is to you...
