It would be great is we could add comments on every object. This would be an additional tab where you could type in the alternative comments to be displayed. If the comments text box is empty then the standard text would be displayed.

I'm not sure I understand your suggestion... Are you just suggesting to add an area to comment on the object? What you suggesting seems to be more of an "alternative text" feature than just comments like you have on the document level of your form.

You could use either the PressTalk Before or PressTalk After windows and put your comments there, preceding each line of text by a percent ("%") sign so that it is taken as a comment.

Granted it is not the intended use, but it should do the trick.

I think he means in the workflow instead of using the comments plug-in, have a comments tab inside each object

I think though, if someone has opened the properties of an object, they can quickly see what is happening, comment plug-ins are useful to explain an entire section though.

A complement to this 'comments' tab could be a 'comments' window, just like the object inspector, data pane, workspace, etc.

That way, you could left click on an object in the document structure pane and immediately see/edit the associated comments in this hypothetical 'comments' window, witout even having to open the object properties!

A button to export comments could also be a nice addition... ;0)

I also like Benoit's idea. Some of the processes get quite large and locating objects and what is happening can be time consuming a year down the road. The ability to search the comments would help as well.
