Hey,

I have never done any work with Pitney Bowes OMR scan codes before. I have an invoice form on which I need to put the codes so that it marks pages 1-5 (that is the maximum the machine will pack into a single envelope) whatever job is greater that 5 pages (we do not have many of them) will go in production to a different print queue and will not need the codes at all. Anyone willing to help me get started on this? Thanks in advance

Voyteck

Hi Voyteck,

PB Scan Code setups and support must be done through Pitney Bowes directly. Our tech support team does not have access to the PB software or PB machines.

So that means there is no possibility to set them up in PP Design? What about the Pitney Bowes Scan Code Object available to inset on a page? What does it do? Thanks

It is possible, just not by yourself. The addition of Pitney Bowes scan codes requires more than just the object. It's a very complex process that incorporates inserter scan codes configuration files, the PB Scan Code PlanetPress Design object, SmartMailer, PBFirst, and a special PlanetPress Workflow configuration with the proper plugins.

These software are provided by Pitney Bowes, and require setup by one of their engineers.

Obviously, this does entail some costs, but as I said this isn't something that you could do on your own. In reality, it's something even *we* can't do on our own except through PB.

Hi,

I believe it all comes down to 3 options:

Option 1: Use the Pitney Bowes Scan code object in PlanetPress Design. This requires that you first contact your Pitney Bowes representative, and may involve costs.

Option 2: An OMR is just a bunch of lines and the scanning device just checks for the presence or absence of marks at specific locations. So you could create your own OMR using Box objects and conditions in PlanetPress Design. This requires that you possess the documentation about what each possible mark could mean, where to place them, etc. This should be available from the device manufacturer. One drawback of this approach is that you have to do everything from scratch, and adding functionnalities such as a Wrap Around Sequence (WAS) can be cumbersome.

Option 3: You can try another standalone software that Objectif Lune created expressedly for inserting Scan Marks on PDFS for use on inserting devices: PlanetPress EnvelopeNOW. More details here: http://ppenvelopenow.com/

Hope this helps!
