Hi,

I'd like to know if the forms and output plug-ins in Workflow could be made to change default settings based on the version of workflow and/or other assets purchased.

For example, if someone were using Production without printer licenses, "printer centric" should never be needed, correct? So, this option should not appear or be available, i.e. grayed out to the user.

If printer licenses are purchased, these are added to Workflow anyway, so, the software could react to this and make printer centric an option.

Since the product already reacts to the serial number, would this be feasible?

I ask because lately, users seem to need to be saved from themselves and have not been reading the online docs for the use of proper settings when creating output. The difference between "printer centric" and Optimized PS is usually not well understood by the casual user.

thanks for checking!

Lou

Lou,

It already kind of reacts to the software's activation level. For example, if you send a form to Workflow and it's a Watch license, it will be put in Printer Centric by default. If you use Production, however, it will be set to Optimized PostScript by default.

However, I don't think we should grey out Printer Centric in PlanetPress Production. Yes, some customers can get confused on why they are still getting watermarks in Production because of this. However, Printer Centric can have some advantages on Optimized PostScript for certain jobs(mainly regarding performance), and the feature needs to remain available if the users wants to try it, and see if things works better. If it's greyed out, then that would force them to actually purchase licenses before even being able to try the feature. Not a very good thing if Printer Centric ends up not increasing the performances or not working at all.

OK, How about a warning to the user then for Capture ready docs, like what you already do for forms that use dynamic imaging?

The user needs to be notified when a Capture doc is being used in an output task with the wrong setting. Printer centric never works for a Capture ready doc, right?

Lou,

Indeed, Printer Centric will never work for a Capture document. But this is a non-issue, because the Capture actions don't let you choose the Run Mode. The Capture Fields Generator, for example, won't let you set it to Printer Centric, it will run it Optimized PostScript no matter what, and none of the other Capture-related actions lets you change the run mode either.
