OK - I got it, when =&GlobalVariable1 is applied to an object it then locks it so it cant be moved manually right? Therefore to adjust any box positions within a group I have to take that formula out of the Top box and then put it back once the adjustments are made...

Correct. If you place a custom expression in an object's coordinates, you can no longer manually move it for as long as the custom expression is there. Which makes sense; even if you were to move it, the custom expression would override whatever position you're moving it to, so it wouldn't be very useful.

those ftp accounts expire after a while and the data is deleted, how about opening a new thread specific to your own issue?

(unless the problem is VERY similar)
