We have the PlanetPress Suite 7 installed on our server (Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise with SP2). The PlanetPress version that we have installed is 7.5.0.7324.

When the PlanetPress Watch 7 service is set to "Automatic" for the Startup Type and we reboot the server, the server gets to Applying Computer Updates and never brings up the logon screen. If we set the service to Manual, our server reboots fine and then we have to start the service manually.

Any idea why this would be happening or how we could troublehsoot/fix?

Thank you.

Brian,

Is it an upgrade that you did from a previous version, or is it a brand new install?

Did 7.5 ever work, or it has always done that?

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling?

The issue was happening on version 7.4. We figured we would upgrade to 7.5 to see if it would resolve it but it didn't. So no it never worked.

We have not done a complete uninstall/reinstall. I always worry about licensing issues so I haven't done that yet.

A normal uninstall and reinstall will not remove the activation code. If you do a full uninstall(uninstall, delete the remaining folders and registry keys), you'll need to reactivate, but the magic number will not change, so the activation code will be the same.

Though if you say that this issue isn't just with 7.5, there might be another cause. A few things you can check:

- Do you only have version 7 on this machine, or do you have a previous version also installed? If so, it is also set to Automatic? You can only have one version running at a time.
- Do you have any anti-virus that could be checking services set to Automatic? What if you disable your anti-virus?
- Are you installed on a VM? If so, what brand of VM? We support the VMWare brand, but not other ones, so that could be an issue.
- Are you on a Terminal Server? If so, note that multi-user Terminal Server mode is not supported, and could cause all kind of issues.
- The services uses TCP and UDP ports 5863. If you have any other third party services using these ports, it could perhaps be causing an issue. You might want to try disabling them.

1. Only version 7 is installed.
2. We disabled our antivirus software and had the same issue.
3. It's a physical server. No VMs involved.
4. No. Terminal Server doesn't come into play.
5. I don't know of any services that use ports 5863.
