I attended a introduction to the next version of Printshop Mail at Drupa earlier this year, and was told that the next version would be using javascript for scripting inside of Printshop Mail. How about my library of external macros in VBscript - will these not be supported anymore?

Kennet,

We really don't have an answer for this at this time. Since the presentation of version 8 a couple months ago, there are things that have changed, so we really can't tell you what will and what will not work at this time.

However, understand that custom javascript/vbscript macros were never officially supported. We cannot guarantee the functionality of these custom functions, so it's possible that what you have right now may not work in version 8, and may have to be redone in a different way.

Regards,
Raphaël Lalonde Lefebvre

Hi Kennet,

The next version of PrintShop Mail is still a little ways off and its feature set is still not completely set in stone, so there's no way to be completely sure.

However, as far as I've heard, I don't believe that VBScript macros will be supported. There are fundamental differences in the way that the new version works, so even if we did support VBScript you would probably need to rewrite them completely anyways.

Thank you both for your responses - i guess i'll find out completely when it's released.

Im hoping that external Macros atleast will be supported - even though it might be in JavaScript (now i have to learn that language anyways). Its really nice for those recurrent tasks (fx. we use it alot for splitting jobs up for the different Danish postcenters - and it really saved us a heap of time, compared to using filters)
