we are testing a new printer model, the HP LaserJet M603n and are getting the "maximum data line length exceeded" error on a separate page in between forms. the same forms work fine on HP models 4100, 4250, 4014, and color 4600 with no error. In compilation options for the forms I have increased the Maximum data line length to 65535 and set the postscript level to 2 but no luck.

thanks in advance

Please see the following post:

I viewed that post originally, we are not using watch so I dont think the optimized postscript stream option applies. the firmware is up to date. Any other ideas?

thanks

Have you tried this:
In the form, under format | document | Compilation Options reduce the Maximum data line length only if it greater than 256

Both setting to 256, and then decreasing to less than 256 until it works upon that specific printer??

If I read that correctly I should set it to 256 and then decrease from there until it works. Is that correct and by what amount should I decrease before trying again?

thanks

Chuckl,
Correct. The default value of 256 should be tested first. Then modified as absolutley needed.

Are you prnting in Printer Centric or Optimized PostScript?

Printer Centric. default value of 256 did not work. by what amount should I decrease this before trying again?
Also, the form prints normally, I get the blank page with the 'maximum data line length exceeded' on it in addition to the forms I am printing.
thanks
chuckl

chuckl,

Maximum Data Line Length will happen if some lines in your data exceed the value specified in the "Maximum data line length" parameter of your form under Compilation options. (we are talking about the data as it is put in the postscript file sent to the printer, not necessarely how you see it in the emulation, so you may have some lines actually longer than what you see in the emulation...) If 256 fails, do NOT decrease it, or it will still fail, you must raise it. The maximum is 65535, which should work, and you should try it first. If it works, you can then try to lower it, as it's best to have it lower performance-wise.

65535 should work, if you say it doesn't, well, I'm a little surprised... Are you using Workflow? And if so, are you sure you've properly resent your form to Workflow after changing it to 65535? If Workflow was actively running, you might want to do a Refresh to make sure the document was updated properly. (right-click on the .ptk in the list of documents, and do Refresh)

Alternatively, you could switch the run mode to Optimized PostScript instead of Printer Centric. This error should not happen in Optimized PostScript.

Hope that helps!

Regards,
Raphaël Lalonde Lefebvre

Issue was resolved via a support ticket.

Since jobs are printing fine directly form PlanetPress, this appears to be an issue of how data is presented to the printer from another application.

Issue was not resolved. I have set the "Maximum data line length" to 65535 but still unsuccessful. Switching to optimized postscript is not an option at this time. We are thinking it might be something with the firmware of this model of HP printer, we've tried everything. thanks for the reply Raphael, any and all suggestions are still welcome at this point.
