Hi,

Up until now, we have always designed our documents using postscript font. I can't remember the reason why we decided to use postscript but I seem to recall somebody saying that there was a restriction of some sort when using True Type. Can True Type fonts be used in a document when the run mode is Optimised Postscript, or, as the name suggests, does this need to be Postscript only?

We will be producing pdf documents to either email/store to a network location or print.

Thanks

Peter,

You must be a longtime user smile.
TrueTypes can be used. They will be converted to PS code with the job. Obviously, if you use tons of different TrueTypes in a single document, the spool file will be larger (as opposed to using native printer PS fonts that don't need to be embedded in the job). But it will still work just fine.

There used to be a restriction, long ago, but it was removed with... uhm... let me think... I think it was version 4...

I have a lot of trouble with true type fonts in my pp7 machine. Basicly all true type fonts list after Hevetica can't be use in pp7. When I setup the style for those fonts, pp7 automatic pick something else. I don't know what happen and I hope someone can help me out. For now I only have one choice is postscript font.

Ply,
Is this limited to PlanetPress? Or do other programs also have issues with fonts?

It's just PlanetPress. Again, all the fonts in windown folder are comment one, I have not install any new fonts yet. Someone told me, that issue cause by some duplicate fonts but I can't figure out which one is the trouble one. I try to remove buns of them but it still happend.

Hi Ply,

Try selecting a font that's three or four positions below the one you want. As you say, PlanetPress will select a different font... and might end up picking the correct one.

This is a workaround to a very old known issue that sometimes(not always reproducible), PlanetPress will not use the correct TrueType font, instead defaulting to a font that's a few positions above the one you selected. Unfortunately, it has never been fixed, and I don't think it will, it's probably due to some sort of limitation in the libraries and objects used to create the PlanetPress software.

All I can recommend is to try removing duplicate fonts, as well as PostScript Outline Opentype fonts, which aren't supported. (Opentypes with TrueType outlines should work) If that doesn't help, try using the workaround.

Regards,
Raphaël Lalonde Lefebvre

Thanks for the strick. I will have to live with this issue. I try to find the trouble font but so far I've not find the right one yet.

Ply,

Try and see if you have a TrueType font that has the exact same name as a PostScript font. This may be the source of the issue. If you find that's the case, try removing one of those fonts and restarting PPress to see if it fixes anything.

Philippe,
this system is only 1 week only. There's no postcript fonts in it. Everything in windowns\font folder are truetype or open type. I've open each font manually to read the fontname line. I see some fonts have the same font name such as: font name: Batang (in both Batang Regular and BatangCHE Regular, is this normal? both are true type.

Ply,

Well it was worth a try, but if your system is relatively new, then I guess it must be something else. Sorry ...
