A while back (years..) I went through a wonderful headache of problems with PlantePress and MS Outlook integration for emailing output files.

With Outlook 2007, sending an email could take 5-45 minutes or more depending on the file size. With Outlook 2003, it took less than a minute, no matter the file size.

I was curious to know if the compatibility for Outlook 2007 or newer has been fixed with recent versions of PlanetPress?

Corporate IT is throwing a fit to get /every/ pc updated and my super-stable PlanetPress machine is the last hold-out of resistance.

Ian,

While this specific problem has no mention in the release note(I don't believe it was reported to the devs, as this problem did not occur on most systems, it only came up very few times), I haven't heard of much problems lately between Outlook and PlanetPress 7.5.1.

Office 2007 should be fully supported, and Outlook being part of it, it should be supported as well. Now, I cannot guarantee that your specific situation will be fixed, as there is no mentions of change regarding Outlook in the new versions, and as I've said, this didn't happen with most customers. My advice would be to try the latest version, and see if it still causes issues. If it doesn't, you may wish to open a technical support issue, so that we can investigate this further.

Regards,

There are differences between each version of Outlook and some of them may impact how/when each attachment is uploaded to the server before being sent out to its destination. In addition, Microsoft stated that Outlook wasn't meant to be called from a service (such as PP-Workflow) and may not perform as expected in these conditions. The workaround - according to Microsoft - is to directly use the CDO objects that are used by Outlook (therefore bypassing Outlook altogether.... which defeats the purpose).

I've been using Outlook 2007 for years with PlanetPress Suite and I have never run into those issues. However, I do not run large numbers of jobs day in and day out, so it's very much possible the issues are indeed still present. I was able to retrace two instances of customers, over the last few years, who expressed the same concerns and fixed their issues by reverting to Outlook 2003. Perhaps one of them was you.

One solution that you may want to consider: use SMTP emails instead. Obviously, that will force you to forfeit the Outlook history of what was sent, but if you always include your email address in the BCC field, then you will also receive those emails and you can still get a history of everything that was sent by the PlanetPress Suite server.
