I can can open the file in excel and view it but copy and past or importing it into Document is not working.

I changed my Regional setting to read Russian still no luck
It's encoded as UTF8.
I saved the file as csv but still not working.

Wali,

Excel documents are not natively usable as data files, so you will have to save it as a CSV. (or XML if you prefer)

Next, don't use UTF-8 encoding, it isn't supported and might not work properly.

When you say "changed my Regional setting to read Russian", what exactly did you change? What options? Having proper regional settings is very important.

Raphael,
I saved the data file as csv and xml either doesn't work. The data gets converted to question marks ???????????.
But I can view the original xls file in Russian.

Do you know how can I save the excel file as CSV or XML without losing the data format?

I added Russian Keyboard in the Regional setting in the General tab and then I saved the data to CSV again to see if this works, but no luck the CSV file is all ????????.

I just need to import the data file in my Document to be able to extract data in Russian language.

Please advise.
Thanks

Walli,

Excel applies cell formatting that cannot be reproduced in a raw text environment.

You could try copy pasting from a cell to a text editor to see if you get the same values. Also, the encoding of the file could prevent you from copy pasting. Make sure the languages you need are supported in your windows environment(might need to change your locale), and that your text file's encoding also matches your original data.

Regards,
Olivier

Wali,

Changing the regional settings doesn't just mean adding a keyboard(in fact, this does nothing besides allowing you to write in Russian). You must actually set your system locale to Russian. In the Windows Control Panels, look into Region and Language, then under Administrative, you should find "Change system locale". You will have to change this to Russian. You should also change the Formats and Location to use Russian as well, to make sure you change everything you need.

As for emailing the file, if you need to have us look at your files, please contact Technial Support. You may call 1-866-348-5863, or use the web page:

Thanks guys,
I changed "Change system locale" to Russian as well as Formats and Locations to use Russian. I also restarted the system to take affect but I still read question marks when I import the file in the document.

Tee funny thing is that I can view the Russian font OK when I open the CSV file but it's just not working in Design.

Some how I just need to know weather it's the file format that client sent me or it;s my settings.

I called Tech Support they cannot help if the issue is with the file rather then PP. Support confirmed that Russian font is OK with PP if the file is OK.

So I will have to keep on testing until I find a solution.
Thanks for all your helps
matter is unsolved for now.
Any more ideas are welcome.

Hi Wali,

As explained in the email I just sent you.

You will need to make sure to setup your regional settings correctly. You need to add the Russian language pack to your Windows.

I was able to get your files to work, with the proper regional settings.

I suggest you speak with your IT before making any changes, as it will change your windows to actually be displayed in Russian.

As far as the font goes - I am using a Times New Roman in its default encoding.

In the sample Data panel I selected the Microsoft Windows Codepage 1251(Cyrillic).

You will see by the PDF file that I sent you that it works perfectly fine, if you have the proper settings.

Best Regards,

Please not - that you will only need to change the display language to Russian when converting the .XLS to a .CSV.

After switching everything back to English I was still able to output correctly is Russian. But I did have to change my font encoding to Microsoft Windows Codepage 1251(Cyrillic).

I hope this helps.

Hi Marc-Andre,
Thanks for your help, after changing font encoding to Cyrillic it's working now, and I have opened a ticket with our IT to install Win 7 Ultra, because the data file that I will receive from the client will be a mixture of Russian, French, Spanish and English.
I will do more testing when client send us another file.
Thanks again
Wali
