I'm using PP7 Design to add OMR marks and set numbers to a PDF. I've done this before with success but for some reason when I do it now a lot of the text in the outputted PDF is getting replaced with symbols and gibberish.

Has anyone seen this before and know a fix?

thanks
-José

hi josé, i think you should describe the issue in more detail. a screenshot would be good maybe.

are you using a ptk generated by the PB scan code application?

are you saying that the text in an otherwise perfectly working document is replaced, once you put the marks on the page?

Not using Pitney Bowes to add marks. Using Planet Press talk to generate the OMR marks. We do this often with no issues.

This seems to happen only for large PDF documents that we use as data. And the scrambled text only starts about half way through the PP7 Design generated PDF.

after: http://www.integdoes.com/?attachment_id=691

As you can see the text gets all scrambled.

thanks

interesting. the workaround is obvious though:- use a splitter before your action.

is the press-talk for this located on an overlay or did you just put everything on one page?

how large a document are we talking about? looking at your system resources, are you running out of memory or anything like that while the process is running?

I thought about the split but I'm trying to get everything into one PDF so that we are only having to track one PDF instead of multiple PDFS.

Talk is all on one page.

PDFS are around 14 to 17Mb. I'm running with 4 GB of memory so I'm pretty sure that's not an issue. I'm going to do some tweaking to the setting though Maybe that will fix it.

That's not due to the size of the file, it's due to the way the fonts are encoded in that particular PDF file.

To validate if that's the case: open the original PDF in Acrobat Reader, then try to select and copy some text to the clipboard, then pasting it into a text editor: you'll probably discover the copied text is garbled as well.

This is true of the PDF after it is created in Design. I can copy and paste the pdf fine before I run it through Design. Is there a certain version of Adobe PDF that works in PP7?

thanks

no 14-17mb are not large files at all.. usually, what i would expect to find is a design document using a pdf data file, set to background on one page. then a separate overlay page containing omr marks, so they may be conditionally shown.

usually, the resulting ptk is later used with one of the printer output plugins.

could you quickly clarify; that this has nothing to do with the file size by just splitting it up beforehand also test if the gibberish result really has anything to do with your presstalk by simply removing it, because i don't think that's very likely either.

Removing the PP Talk resulted in the same issue.

Smaller files seem to work better but this defeats the purpose of running one large file.

at this point (troubleshooting), i don't feel it matters if it defeats the purpose or not..

so please clarify, does simply splitting it up beforehand solve the problem or not?
