Bas,

Are those rectangles and squares actual images? Because if that's the case, it's not very efficient to use pictures to hide text. You could instead use the PlanetPress tools to draw a box, give it a white background, and remove the images. This would take much less space.

I took a screenshot from the design structure, since i'm not at the office, i will do my best to describe how it is configured.

If i look in the document structure, i see:
Style, Conditions, Metadata fields, etc. and at the end there is a folder named Pages;

When i unfold this folder there is a page1 with a picture in it, with a drawn white rectangle in it, a4 size. We where told that this is necessary to build the design.

Using the design with this added rectagle picture drawn with the planetpress tools increases the size from 40kb to 360kb.

I hope that my post makes any sence.

If you expand the list of objects associated with the Page, you should see whether the white square is a "Picture" object, or a "Box" object. Can you double-check which one is it?

Ideally, it should be a "Box" and not a "Picture". If it's a picture, it means an image is used for a white square, and most likely take unnecessary space. (remember that for a raster image, it doesn't matter how "nice" the image is. Whether it's a nice photo, or just a huge white square, it takes the same amount of pixels, and are both just as big)

As far as i can see, the white image is probably being used to set as backgroundcolor.

Can i just add a BOX draw a white square(box) en fill it with white or is there any another way?

Today we did some more testing.

the strange thing is:

1. if we print direct to the printershare, the size increases from 40kb to 500kb.

2. if we print our letters to a folder (size 50kb), then planetpress picks up the pdffiles in a seperated process, this process prints the files to the same printer as used in test 1 (size 56kb).

There is only one problem in test2:

We use different fonts in our letters:
On the left side of the document we set the adresses of our offices (variabel).

This tekst becomes all mixed up in the output document.

The tekst in the body is correct.

any ideas?

Yes, you should just draw a box and give it a white background. Then remove the picture, and remove it from the Picture Resources as well.

Did you look at my post about printing to folder and let planetpress pick it up again?

Is it possible to download a basic design doc somewhere?

Yes, I saw it. A difference in printing method could make a difference in the file size. In this case, since fonts seems to be affected, it looks as if perhaps one method might be embedding fonts in the pdf, while the other doesn't.

However, to be certain, we'd have to actually see your Workflow config, and see how you are producing your pdf files. We can't really do that over the newsgroup though, so I would suggest that you instead contact Technical Support, and they will be able to assist you. You may call 1-866-348-5863, or use the web page:

http://www.objectiflune.com/OL/en-CA/Support/ReportIssue/PlanetPressSuite.aspx

And I would also suggest that you follow Phil's suggestion and take a look at the OL Learn website. It contains many courses, tutorials, sample PlanetPress documents, etc...

Raphaël Lalonde Lefebvre
