Open Type Fonts with PostScript outline is not supported by PlanetPress. If the font outline is TrueType, then the font is supported.

It would be very useful if OTF fonts with PostScript outline is also supported by PlanetPress.

Hi Walli,

This has already been requested, and unfortunately, it will not happen, at least not during version 7's lifetime.

PostScript outline OpenType fonts have many characteristics that would be currently difficult to implement in PlanetPress, it would be quite a lot of work to implement support for those fonts. We also haven't had that many cases where the customer absolutely required the use of a PostScript OpenType, and in the few cases where they did, there are workarounds, such as using a font conversion software.

The hard work required, the low demand, and the existance of workarounds are the reasons why this will not be implemented for the time being.

Regards,
Raphaël Lalonde Lefebvre

OpenType has become the standard, TrueType is the predecessor. Not my words, See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenType
Wouldn't this effort, although a lot of work, be the correct progression of PlanetPress, even if just to keep up with other competing products in the market?

Contrary to popular belief, PlanetPress does support OpenType fonts. Actually, since about Windows 2000, all of the fonts shipped with the base operating system as well as those installed by Microsoft Office are OpenType. And all of those work flawlessly with PlanetPress.

What PlanetPress does not support are OpenType with PostScript outlines, the less common of the two flavours of OpenType. As long as OpenType with TrueType outlines are used, which accounts for probably 90% of the fonts, PlanetPress will work as expected.
