We are currently running Planet Press Suite v6.2.2.3010 on Windows 2008 server - virtual machine using VSphere 5. we will be upgrading our VSphere environment to VSphere and VCentre 5.1. Will this version of Planet Press run on our new VSphere environment? will we need to get a new license once this upgrade is done?

Hi,

PlanetPress V6 is not supported under Windows2k8.

You really should upgrade to the latest version of PlanetPress which is 7.5.3.

That version fully supported Win2k8 and VMWare/VSphere with no issues.

V6 might work under Win2k8 - but I would strongly advised against it and will not be supported.

thanks for the info. when I passed this on to our network team, they advised me of the following:

Currently Planet Press VM is running “Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard edition”. We are not upgrading the Operating System of the VM to Win2K8. Currently vSphere is on ESXi 5.0 we are upgrading it to ESXi 5.1 Update1. We are not touching the Operating System of the VM.

Sorry for the confusion. Does this make a difference? We are planning on upgrading to 7.5.3 but not until 1Q14.

PlanetPress V6 - is not supported in a virtual environment. That does not mean it will not work - but you will most likely have issues with magic number changes every time you reboot and very such odd behaviors.

Starting with PlanetPress V7.5.1 a lot of changes were made to fully support virtual servers.

PlanetPress now fully supports VMWare and Hyper-V.

With that information now you can made the decisions needed.
