Hello,
Can anyone say if there's a roadmap or ETA for compatibility with PlanetPress Suite 7 and Windows Server 2016?

We're reviewing our licensing strategy with Microsoft and are seeing that servers running Windows Server R2 and utilizing Microsoft MPN and MAPS licensing will require upgrading to Server 2016 by October 2017. ( https://assets.microsoft.com/en-us/Software_Updates_for_MPN_and_MAPS_1.pdf).

If OL is planning for Server 2016 compatibility before then, it would open up this as an option for us. Thanks.

We are planning to run the certification tests within the coming 3 months.

Note that this does not guarantee the OS will be fully supported (although I expect no issue to crop up), but at least we'll be able to inform the community if we find areas that cause issues.

That's good news, and sounds promising.

Thanks very much for being able to respond so quickly. I'll be on the lookout for any updates as they come.

So the certification tests were due in April. Any news on this? I would like to move our production server to a Windows Server 2016 VM...

Hi rtelles,

Unfortunately, at this time, Windows Server 2016 is still unsupported. There is currently no set date as to when support for it will be added, so for now, it's best to stick to 2012 or earlier.

Does anyone know if Windows Server 2016 is supported yet?
Our Planet Press server is the only VM in our Hyper V farm that is on Windows 2012 and I would really like to update it if possible.

Thanks!

Hi Rafael,

PlanetPress 7.6.2 has indeed been certified for Windows Server 2016. However, there are two things that will not work:

- The Anoto penDirector.
- The option to "Enhanced a PDF". (where you could right-click on a pdf in Windows, and choose "Enhance with PlanetPress" and automatically create a PDF Emulation form with the pdf... You can still use PDF Emulation, it's just that shortcut that doesn't work anymore)

If you don't need those features, then feel free to upgrade. However, note that only 7.6.2 is compatible with Windows 2016. If you are still on 7.2.2, as your signature suggests, then you'll need to upgrade to 7.6.2.

Raphaël Lalonde-Lefebvre

Thanks for the quick reply Raphael. We are on version 7.6.2 already but we will be doing a full re-install to a new Hyper V VM with Windows 2016,install 7.6.2 and configure Production with our Planet Press Design files, etc...

I assume we will need to activate again when we plan on doing this?

Yes, you will need new activation codes once everything is setup on the new environment.
